Reminder: This is a student project only, not an actual Ecommerce platform to be used

Overview

Our refund and returns policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have passed since your purchase, we will not be able to help you with your claim. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it.

What’s Covered:

You may be eligible for a refund under the conditions that:

  • The Seller Never Shows Up: If the item is never delivered to the buyer after payment has been made. Or under the circumstances that no attempt is made from the seller to deliver the item to buyer.
  • The Item Does Not Match Listing: Wrong title, edition, model, missing components that were not disclosed (promised access codes, CDs, workbook, etc. that were not included)
  • The Seller Cancels Sale: If payment has gone through, but seller decides not to go through with sale.
  • Both Seller and Buyer Come to a Mutual Agreement: If both the seller and the buyer agree, a refund can occur.

What’s Not Covered

There are certain situations where we cannot offer refunds:

  • Buyer’s Remorse: If you inspected the item at pickup, confirmed it matched the listing, and completed the exchange, SALE IS FINAL. The Back4School team encourages buyers to inspect items carefully before confirming the receipt in the app.
  • Normal Wear Consistent With Disclosed Item Condition: An item listed as “Good” or “Fair” is expected to show some wear; this is not grounds for a refund.
  • Digital Access Codes That Have Been Activated or Redeemed: If you receive a code and redeem it, you are not eligible for a refund it.
  • Any Item That is Returned More than 30 Days After Delivery: Unfortunately, if a claim is filed more than 30 days after delivery, there is nothing we can do.

Reporting A Problem

First, contact the seller directly. Most issues can be resolved between students without needing Back4School to step in.

If you cannot reach an agreement or the seller does not respond within 2 business days (Monday-Friday), either party can request that Back4School Support step in. Our team will review:

  • Photos of the Item
  • The Original Listing
  • Messages Exchanged Between Buyer and Seller

We will make a final determination based on the evidence provided.

How Refunds Work (PayPal)

  • Refund will be issued through PayPal, back to the original payment method
  • If Back4School determines the seller is at fault, the buyer will receive a full refund of the item price and Back4School’s 8% commission.
  • If Back4School determines buyer is at fault (e.g., the item matched the listing and was accepted at pickup), no refund will be issued.

How Refunds Work (Credit & Debit)

  • Refunds to debit or credit cards typically take 5-10 business days to appear on your statement; they can take longer depending on your bank. Processing time is outside of Back4School’s control.
  • If you have an issue with a purchase, report it to our Head of Customer Support before contacting your bank or card issuer. Disputing a charge directly with your bank first may delay your refund
  • If Back4School determines the seller is at fault, the buyer will receive a full refund of the item price and Back4School’s 8% commission.
  • If Back4School determines buyer is at fault (e.g., the item matched the listing and was accepted at pickup), no refund will be issued.

Fair Use

We only replace items if they are defective or damaged. Repeated false claims, abuse of the refund process, or sellers who consistently fail to honor confirmed sales may result in suspension from the Back4School platform.
